Successor to Bluebird, Project Artichoke launched on August 20, 1951, with a focus on inducing involuntary actions. Project MKUltra begins under CIA Director Allen Dulles and is headed by Sidney Gottlieb. This becomes the most extensive mind control research program in history, encompassing over 150 subprojects. Operation Midnight Climax was a sub-project where the CIA employed prostitutes to lure unwitting subjects who were then dosed with LSD and monitored behind a one-way mirror.
